Decorative Painting Course

This course is for individuals looking to start a career as a professional decorative painter. This program is 5-days a week for 16 weeks. This course is for the serious student that wants to excel in the field of decorative painting. This course will teach you everything you need to know in order to become a professional decorative painter. There is no other program like this in North America.

Trainees :
Open to beginners.

Program objective:

To learn and professionally use various techniques of decorative painting.

Extracts from the syllabus :
Knowledge of supports, base coat application before decorating (sizing's and paintings),
Oil patinas, crumpled, sponged, stenciled, smoothed and acrylic patinas,
Patina brushes (use of hog bristle),
Decorative patinas, lime patinas,
Trompe-l'oeil molding and contemporary ornamentation,
Decorative wood (maple, oak.) and marble imitations,
Stone imitation, brickwork and precious wood imitation,
Study of colors,
Skies and ceiling decoration,
Study of drapery and approach to mural decorative panorama

Teaching Methods:

Students will learn and demonstrate techniques in our fully equipped training facility.

Training on different supports in real conditions: walls, doors, and panels

Individual work of students will be completed on lightweight panels, students will keep these panels which they can keep when leavening the school.

Week 3:Glazes & Patinas

Week 4: Italian plasters

week 5: Marbling

Week 6: Wood Graining

Week 7: Murals

Week 8 Murals with Trompe L'Oeil

Week 9: Murals, Trompe L'Oeil

Week 10: Trompe L'Oeil

Week 11: Decorative painting for furniture

Week 12: Gilding

Week 13: Fresco techniques

Week 14: Atmosphere, sky & clouds

Week 15: Ornamentation & over wood & marble

Week 16: Student project panoramic mural

Students will create and complete a panoramic mural using all of the principles from there 15 weeks of study to create a life size panoramic mural in real world conditions on a 71 square yard substrate.

To be an ISDA graduate, students have to take and pass a final exam
